Your sonical audition reflects almost mine so...
i 'm not really towards closed cans , so ..if i were you i would seriously try

Philips 890 - ooooopen

Philips 900 !! -very good sound .Try also a search , also for the closed version . Very portable ( but beware , they break very easy )

Beyedynamics dt531 ( easy find on ebay ) - outstanding groovalizer , if you can't get them spend a little more and try the new beyer dt460 or 660

grado 225 ( but on an higher budget , they doesn't sound as narrow and piercing as the sr80)

some more , if you want details ask me pm .

For What It's Worth, I'll post my favorite < $100.00 portable,
low-leakage, decent isolation headphone selection:

iRiver silver (SlimX-350) earbuds - available on their online store for $13.00 + the Radio Shack foamies (part # 33-376) for $1.99.

They beat, to my ears, other closed, portable phones in the sub-$100.00 category, AND they beat the Senn MX400 and MX500.
To My Ears, On My Rig, Your Mileage May Vary.

I have them and I still think that MX400s are slightly better, although they're almost the same.

That's interesting.. can anyone compare the MX400/MX500 and the Panasonic to the headphones I already own, especially in terms of sound (duh!), leakage and comfort?

All three of them are comfortable and sound damn good for their price.
They're probably more detailed than the KSC-35s, but obviously their soundstage and isolation isn't as good... well they don't really exist, really.

Soundstage.. check.

Isolation... hmm.. I was thinking the buds would at least provide more isolation than the KSC-35.. well doesn't anything else would provide better isolation than that?
