X3. I've been using Avast for a couple of years now and it's been quite good. I switched to it after a recommendation from a friend because I was not able to get rid of a pesky bug that went past through my McAfee AV. Avast got rid of it in a snap and best of all its FREE!

Also, Avast has a "Boot time Scan" that will get rid of Memory Resident Viruses.

I'll second that. It's free, lightweight and has come up first on some respectable antivirus tests, ahead of Nod32 and Kaspersky even.
