True! You can get a used one for ~$100, nearly the same price as a k240S/M. If you're more of a rocker/basshead, definitely go for a k240S (or M, for slightly less bass and a chance to crank up your amp

). If you want a soundstage as wide as the Grand Canyon, tight bass, sweet mids, and the true meaning of treble, go for the k501.

The k26P has great isolation for such a small, cheap 'phone, but the rolled-off highs and boomy bass may not be worth your while. I'm considering an upgrade to the k81DJ.

I just though compliment was more something like " ohh my what a nice headphone you have !" So that looks like a pretty different verb to me.
But yes i do agree on the k81j. Great headphone for price.

One more vote for K81. Gotta like bass though.

Yep. You compliment your mother-in-law. Headphones and angles complement each other.

Not necessarily true. If you move the headphones forward on your head, bass lessens considerably. It balances out very well with the rest of the frequencies, offering what I consider to be, with my limited experience, a very neutral sound.

Updated to add: Oh yeah, this is with the headband bent, lessening pressure on the head. That act alone lowers bass. Then add the above, and you get reasonable bass.

I just got myself a pair of AKG K 301 Xtras for $80 brand new at Guitar Center. Of course, I've not had them long enough to really say if they're really good or not but for the price, they sound pretty good so far. I think they're an older model though so you may not be able to find 'em.

They're very comfy but they're also enormous! I wouldn't wear 'em in public. At 55 ohms, they're just right for running unamped but I still get the feeling they'd sound better with an amp.
