I'm looking for some speakers to replace the terrible built-in speakers in my iMac. I'm not looking for audio heaven or anything here, just something that will provide at least SOME bass. I'm looking to spend under $50. Is there even a difference in quality between models at this price, or am I spoiled by headphones? Just looking for something decent that can play music and can actually hear the bass when I don't feel like using my headphones.

2:1 is an option I guess. I figured that I'd get better satellites for the same price as getting satellites + a sub. There really aren't any speakers under $50 that can produce enough bass to at least hear?

I second the Creative T20 or T40 series 2's. You won't get sub bass, but they are just about the best 2.0 I've heard at that low of a price point.

These are a good buy for $100. I would have gone with those.

Yeah, the Audioengine 2's are very nice sounding set of speakers ... they are the perfect lil bro' of the A5's. They A2's are $200 new, though, which I am guessing is a bit out of the OP's $50 price range.
