is there really no golf-fi thread here? did i miss it somewhere? i tried searching

anyways, if anyone is into golf, i had a quick question or two

Im planning on getting back into golf after maybe 6 or so years of not playing. anyone know of a set of irons that would be forgiving and could be found used in the 200-400$ range?
I think ill just keep my driver (GBBII i think) and my putter (2-ball Odyssey) but id like to replace my tommy armour iron set i bought used about 10 years ago. thanks!

Honestly there's nothing wrong with your TA's. Still good irons.

But if you must, then I'd say grab some Mizuno MX-23's off Ebay. VERY solid, with a good amount of forgiveness, yet very workable.

You can find them for under your budget. Make sure to play the proper shaft.

Well some of the newer Tommy Armour sets are pretty good, and quite forgiving and are priced very competitively. I found Wilson clubs to have great grip but had too much of a knock on ball impact.

In your price range I would also suggest you look at Cleveland irons, they are quite impressive for the price.

I was never comfortable with someone else's definition of "forgiving". Is there a place where you can actually hit some balls with the clubs you are considering? While hitting off a mat into a net is not ideal, you at least get a feel for the clubs.

its going well! wow 79 huh.. congrats! i think the lowest ive ever hit was low 90s. so yea, never was much good but theres nothing like a beautiful cali day on the golf course. i think my high scores have something to do with the beers i drink as my gatorade. front 9 i usually shoot pretty low... then back 9 is horrible.

Yes, that's a very good deal for a like new set of those Mizuno's. 3-Pw?

Good choice, IMHO. I have played their MP33's forever. Mizuno makes wonderful forgings.

Enjoy the new sticks.

That's ok. I was just trying to ascertain how many irons you got for your $350. 4-PW is a fairly standard set these days, what with the proliferation of hybrids now.

Golf Poem

In My Hand I Hold A Ball,
White And Dimpled, And Rather Small.
Oh How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.
By Its Size I Could Not Guess,
Of The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell.
My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same,
Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End,
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.
It Has Made Me Curse And Made Me Cry,
And Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises Me A Thing Called Par,
If I Hit It Straight And Far.
To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.
It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.
With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.
It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows ... I'll Be Back Tomorrow.
Stand proud you noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls....
A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.
That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon.

Kind of makes you proud. Almost
feel like a hybrid.
