As the title says, im going to hong kong on the 20th october and i will be buying some cans there as the choice there is much greater than anywhere i know in the uk, not to mention the prices are also cheaper sometimes. I will be going to this store: http://www.headphonehk.com/, so please try and specify models that are avaliable in this site; unless you can suggest another store where they might sell an unavaliable headphone from the store above. Also state if i will need an amp to drive the headphones too please, although i would prefer to not use an amp.

i'm looking to spend around HK$2750

My musical perferences are anything from hip hop to jazz. I partically want blues and guitars to sound good.

I know its a lot to ask for but if you can help, i would be very thankful.

Greeting from HK.

I may not be able to give you opinions on the choice of headphones as I am pretty much a newbie earplugs user. However, I can tell you more about the headphones stores in HK. There are a numbers of AV stores (which also sell headphones/amps) in Mongkok district. Most of them can be found at
"Yau Shing Commercial Building" & "Prosperity Building".(Tak Fak Building in Cantonese)

(you may check www.yp.com.hk for the exact location of those buildings)

BTW, if you want to get a good bargain from those stores, you may want to pay cash instead of visa. For most cases, if you ask the sales, "what's the lowest price if I pay cash", he/she will reveal you a discounted price.

great tip on the cash thing janos.

ok so i figured what i asked for was far tooo broad. let me reiterate: which headphone + amp combo sounds the best for jazz in your opinion that is less than £200, from a creative SB audigy. i guess you can ignore the store now.

Apart for Kingsound Audio, I would recommend going to a store name AV2000 which is also in Mongkok. They also specialise in headphones only. I found that they were cheaper for certain headphones.

You're welcome, Spacko.
I am no expert in headphones as I've mentioned and I haven't been listening to DT-880. Let me see if I can help in another way by "translating" the comments given by the bros. at HK headphones forum for you.

Most of them agree that 880 is kind of monitor like headphones which has very transparent sound signature. They suggest that in order to make a good match for 880, the AMP should be able to soften the sound a little bit to help producing a warmer, more prominent vocal sound. Hence, a good tube AMP is probably the best choice.

In Hong Kong, you can find a lot of high quality but rather less expensive tube AMP that are made in China. I guess you may get the 880 first and then try those tube AMPs out in the stores to seek for the best match.
