In term of sound quality, is it a noticeable improvement?
Going from X-fi xtreme music to Prelude. Worth it?

No. Your source is a heck of alot more noticable if you were to change it out compared to the 2 cards mentioned.

The Prelude definitely has better sound quality, plus you can roll your own different OPAMPs to change the sound signature to your liking. The Prelude is a very good compromise between gaming and music listening on an internal sound card.
Plus you can always just add a Zhaolu to the set up in the future if you grow out of the internal DAC.
