hello i am going away to college soon and don't wanna have to lug my desktop with me, unless i have no choice. I will be buying a laptop in a few weeks and want to know if the soundcards that creative produces (doesn't nessesarily have to be creative since i will not be doing any gaming on the laptop) have the same audio quality to their desktop brothers.

I want to enjoy good audio quality in college while listening to either sony sa5000 or denon d2000...have not yet decided which to get yet..

OR

I could take my desktop with x-fi prelude installed...

well my personal understanding on the idea of bringing a desktop is that if you do bring it, there is always a risk of it being stolen, now a laptop you can lock down, not sure about a desktop but if you do decide to bring it, make sure to lock it down and always lock your dorm room when you are out.

most desktops have a kensington lock port. just attach it to the desk/radiator or something, and no more risk.

How about a usb DAC? Your soundcard doesn't really matter then.
