I use cheap Nexxtech volume controls for all my gear (same thing as Radio Shack's). Does the trick for me

. No difference in sound quality IMHO, and no more annoying hiss. Maybe there is one, but if I get 99% of the sound quality I should initially get, chances are I won't miss that tiny little 1% at all. I bought 2 for 10$.
