I need headphones...

1. They will mainly be used unamped
2. They need to be comfortable
3. They need to be reasonably durable
4. I would prefer full sized
5. They need to sound good
6. No grados

The Sony MDR-V6 may be good one to consider. They've been around and accepted pretty much unchanged like forever, and their ruggedness in the recording studio(and with little kids at home!)is legendary.

They are able to be pad swapped for even more comfortable velour pads if desired, but I haven't read of any comfort problems with the pleather pads.

And they are closed if isolation is a concern.

...for a few bucks more you can get the MDR-7506 and get a gold plated plug and a different colored sticker that says "Professional"(

)and no change in the sound.

I like the MDR-7506 cause the color of the sticker won't clash with my current batch of phones and all my plugs are gold plated as well.

....gads; we really can be shallow can't we?!

Go with the highest model number you can possibly afford, because I understand that higher model numbers are more better.

I haven't thought of this yet, that's a good idea

I would suggest to you the Denon D1000's. They are VERY comfortable, over the ear, and sound GREAT.

I've heard quite a bit about these, how are they unamped?

How do the others compare to the d1000? Also how do they all perform unamped?

Don't care, under $200

From my experience this describes the HD595 (open), and from what I've read it also describes the D1000 (closed).
