Ok here is the deal. I just listened to the very best of Cream CD last night and the guitars and vocals sound good but the drums sound like mush. Now it said on the CD inlay that the album was a remaster from 94. Is it a bad remaster or is that the way the drums were recorded?

If all the drum tracks sound bad, it's unlikely it's the recording -- remember that's a greatest hits album compiled from various recordings over a period of a few years in (I think) different studios with different producers. Although I think Ginger Baker did mic his own setup, so that might have something to do with it.
