Hi,
I have the following questions, please answer them for me.

1) Maxed out Met42 vs. Gilmore V1, which is better for my headphones ( I have HD600, DT880, A100ti, and CD3K).

2) Is CD3K a good match w/ the Gilmore V1?

3) What's the difference b/w the V1, and V2.

Thanks folks. I did the search but need more feedback. I would appreciate...comments of the Gilmore V1 w/ the all the mentioned phones.

Hey Purk,

It's really a matter of personal preference as to which you would prefer, Meta or Gilmore, although the Gilmore has MORE power.

I've tried the CD3000's with the Gilmore V1 and V2, and didn't really care for the combo; I found it a touch bright, and on the Shrill side, but that's me. I did really like the CD3000's with the Meta, however.

When I compared the V1 and the V2 on my NS500V with the DT880's, the only difference I found was some added gain with the V2; otherwise I found them to be pretty much identical sounding. I haven't heard a V2-SE however.

HI: PURK: I think the V2 has a little better power supply over the V1. But I prefer the meta42. The meta has more bass and color or body to the sound. The V1-V2 are very natural sounding but are stronger amps acording to the meta42 that I think uses 24 volt power.

More color yes, but I'd like to see a poll on body and bass.

If you go with the Gilmore though, make sure you have a good source or you will hear everything that is wrong with whatever you are running through it.

HI: How are you? I have owned 2 V1 and 1 v2 Gilmore amps and sold them all in favor of the meta42 because of the better bass and more fun sound of the meta. The Gilmore's are much more natural though but bass goes to the meta42 in my opinion. This just might come down to personal taste and If you fell that the Gilmore has better bass I have no argument with your opinion.

PS
The super mini digital V6 has more bass then the gilmore V1 or V2. I bet that is why gilmore makes the higher gilmores that must sound much better than the V1 or V2

Purk, read the review done by sacd lover. It covers the V1, V2, V2SE, and he also owns the dact V1, He did a review of the dactV1 vs. the stock V1 also. Also he owns the DT-880's. Do a search and you'll get in depth answers to your questions. He also covers there use as pre-amps.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the inputs. The V1 will arrive sometime next week....so I'll find out for myself. I hope my CD3K and Gilmore sing along well. I plan to sell which ever amp that sound worst with my CD3k. I might need a source upgrade.

You will definetly need a source upgrade for the gilmore. ^^

Biggie,
I probably think so on the source upgrade. However, do you think the NS500V will be fine for a while? I know that the NS500V can be on the harsh side. Will my Gilmore, CD3K, and NS500V have no love for one another?

Thanks

The gilmore needs a smooth sounding player because it is very transparent/revealing. I haven't heard you player so I can't say how that combination will synergize. Purk I needed cash for a better souce so I don't even own a pcdp anymore

Hi,
Just got the V1 today. Very impressive indeed. The gilmore amp is just so neutral and true to the music. The transparency and speed are remarkable. The bass goes deep w/o being muddy. The high is extra sparkle. My META42 is taking a back seat right now. I can't believe that my META42 is so colored!

I wanted to reply earlier but my computer has been out being repaired. It seems you already like the v1 and I find it pairs very well with my dt 880s. I have a pair of cd3000's coming, so I will audition them with the std v1 and I will let you know what I think.
