My Gilmore balanced dynamic is almost finished.

frontext.jpg

It's actually a preamp, with crossfeed, 5 inputs, a tape loop, and four outputs. A tape loop output is provided on the front (one of the mini jacks). There is a balanced output on the front (the headphone jacks)
and one on the back. Finally, a single ended output is available either on the back,
or via (after some more work) the left headphone jack.
An eight pole rotary switch deals with the various output
options. Four pole switches are used to select input to the
amp and input to the tape loop.
The toggle switches in the middle are to set the crossfeed on/off and adjust its level.

The case was custom made by Par Metals.

Here are the innards:

The above is the, obscured, crossfeed board. The unpopulated
positions were for DC blocking caps that
were to be used when the output was set to single ended;
however, I am going to set up the 8 pole rotary switch to modify the servo
appropriately when the output is changed between single ended and balanced. The pot is an Alps Black Beauty.

I would like to thank the Head-Fi community for the invaluable help you've
given me over the course of the past few months. I could not have built this otherwise.

And, by the way, the amp sounds splendid

Thanks for the kind comments.

What enclosure is that, and where did you get it?

Par Metal made the enclosure. There is
a link to them in this forum. It was custom
made. 2" X 10" X 10" with ventilation holes as shown. Nice case, captive nuts,
fits very nicely, solid. It cost $55. They
also make nicer cases (mine is a steel chassis with aluminum end panels).

Absolutely gorgeous! What cables and rotary switches are you using, Arzela?

Any more details on the crossfeed circuit board and options?

BTW, you can get the very nice Audio Research "aviation grade" aluminum toggle switches from ARC for about $20 each. They're the standard ARC toggles with the long blades. They would look fantastic on your PAR enclosure.

Congratulations!

The cables are nothing special, 24 gauge stranded wire. I braided them and used
some black nylon mesh tubing that
M. Percy sells. Very nice looking stuff.

The 8 pole/ 6 position rotary is an electroswitch. I wish I bought a wider
enclosure as it takes a bit of effort to
turn this switch with the 3/4" knob!
The solder lugs for this switch are very sturdy, I, however, cut
most of them off. The rotaries for the
input and tape loop select are Grayhill
71 series. These feel absolutely superb,
solid, yet silky.

It's the modified Linkwitz circuit, as in
the board Tangent sells. One toggle to
turn it on/off, another to select high/low
crossfeed level.

Thanks for the toggle switch suggestion,
do you have a link?
