I had my ears irrigated by a nurse at my local surgery yesterday. What a difference it makes! They don't do syringing anymore, they use this water pumping device which sounds like someone put a pneumatic drill to your ear. It's very loud, a bit ticklish, and a few moments of extreme pressure but well worth it. Amazing how much wax came out my ears and into the sink. Disgusting really

Point I'm making though is that now, hearing is so much sharper, particularly treble. Headphone listening means picking out even more detail than before. Highly recommended, only takes 10 minutes.
