Has anyone compared the old 3rd gen ipod's lineout sound to the ipods currently available?

I am thinking of creating another portable rig around the old ipod after hearing that it has one of the best dacs in the ipod family.

I have no amp yet hence I will appreciate any input from members who have or had the opportunity to compare the 3rd gen ipod with any of the newer models and the iMods.

Cheers

IIRC, iMod is only for 4th and 5th gens. You'd have to DIYmod them, or get someone else to. Or was this your intention? If so please disregard.

If bigshot was here he'd also add, that the 3rd gen lineout should sound the same as all other gens (non-modded).

My DIY skills are non-exsistent

so I guess I would need to get someone to do the modding, if I actually intend to proceed.
Will probably make my decision after my amp arrives. Thanks for the info.
