What this thread really is an atempt to get the knowlwdge of GasBuddy.com out there so that the information in the database grows, but just so its not an advertisement I figured an actuall discussion was needed.

So....

What exactly does knowing that you can get gas at 4 cents less at the station near your work than at the station next to grandma's house have to do with living a better life...well...ultimately informed consuming is a good thing, but I know this kind of penny pinching is going to just blow the tops off a bunch of those here who hate penny pinchers, heck, even I can see the rediculousness here. For example, say you spend a rediculously large amount of time driving (like say 25,000 miles a year worth) and that you have a rediculously bad vehicle in the fuel economy part of the equation (like 15 mpg) and that you track prices all over where you traval and are able to save an exorbanant and unrealistick $0.25 a gallon from what you would have payed if you just bought at wherever was most convienent at the time. So the math leads to a $417 savings, now sure, that is a lot but here is the thing, you ain't gonna save that much! Nobody travels long enough, no body has a bad enough fuel economical vehicle and most of all nobody is going to save anywhere near $0.25 per gallon from the site. Realisticly savings of something around $25 a year seems more like it to me. Now I don't doubt there is a select group of people out there that can save hundreds of dollars a year if they know where the gas is cheapest from this site, but most people that traval relatively localy most of the time and don't drive around Ferrari's or Supercharged Hummer's or cars with holes in the gas tank, aren't going to save anything terably meaningfull...are they?

Kind of funny, i'm contribuing to a site that I just put forth an argument for that it was useless...I love the way debate class and philosophy class have enabled me to argue against my own actions, its terably entertaining to see oposing perspectives at the same time...
