OK I'll cut to the chase.
Is the X-Fi Extreme Gamer for $80 or so worth it?
I'm talking for playing games only, through headphones or stereo speakers.
I've got some amazon credit and theres a $20 rebate if I get that card (it was in the box with Bioshock)
So, I can get it for about $60 or so.. what's the general opinion on these cards for gaming. Seems to be the only choice really?
Computer is a Quad core 2.7 ghz on an Asus Mobo that has Analog Designs AD1988b HD audio on it (Asus calles it the supreme fxII or something). It has coax and opitcal output but i cannot for the life of me find anywhere that says if it's bit perfect.
Also, with a powerful cpu like this, will i notice the supposed hardware acceleration of the sound card?
oh, and due to the size of the SLI'd cards in the pc, I only have one PCI slot to use, and it's currently used by my wifi card, so I'll need a new wifi solution (usb most likely).
So, worth all the effort do you think?
