Ok, guys been a long while since I've been on here, but came here wanting a recommendation on headphones for gaming and movies. Narrowed it down and then bought the Sony MDR F1's from a member on here. Well they are fantastic, love the comfort and sound, but I've finally got hi speed wifi in the sticks and so joined some buds playing MW3. Obviously, I hear them great but they can't hear me and was looking for a solution.
 
Now I'm not bright but I know where to come looking for the info, so can I add a microphone to what I have and wear my F1's, or do I need to start shopping for a new set with a built in microphone?
 
Just for background, I have a Pioneer SE-DIR800C infrared DD 5.1 wireless headphone system, but I just plug my Sony's into that which goes into my HK receiver. (My HK receiver doesn't have the dolby headphone jack on it, I know some do).

I have a ****ty $20 Logitech standing mic that sounds fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was hoping to get one that attaches to my headphones. Also, what does the microphone plug in to?

I have the zalman clip-on and people say they can hear me fine. If you want one that connects to your headphones instead of clipping to the wire checkout the ModMic:

Both the zalman and the modmic and most any other similar microphone just plugs into your computer's 3.5mm microphone jack. If you're talking about console gaming instead of PC gaming that's another story and you'll have to start by telling us which console you're using.

One of the USB ports on the back of your computer. I have the Zalman clip-on, and have tried to affix it to many headphones. It really just adds another unnecessary wire when you could just go for a desktop mic and be done with it.

Ok, guys, just for clarity for me here. I am using this for XBOX Live, so you are saying instead of plugging this microphone into the XBOX controller, I would just run a wire into the USB port on the back of the XBOX if I went with a desktop microphone and this would give me better clarity vs. the Zalman microphone? Sorry, I'm slow.

The headset jack on the Xbox controller isn't a standard 3.5mm jack. You might be able to use an adapter but I'm not sure. You may need to look into microphones specifically designed for the Xbox.

Neither would work in that case. I thought we were talking about comps. Sorry.

Ok this modmic deal sounds interesting, but the jack on the controller is 2.5. Is there a converter that can go from 3.5mm to 2.5mm?

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter but whether or not it will work is the question. I would try to find an Xbox forum/site and ask there as there's bound to be other people who have tried the same thing with 3.5mm jack microphones.

Update: I went ahead and bought the modmic, should arrive today.
 
I found a headset that came with my Xbox that plugs into my controller, and then I selected "voice through headset and speakers" in the xbox menu. So, I've been playing with my Sony F1's on and then wearing the other xbox headset on the back of my neck and angling the microphone to my mouth and it seems to work fine. However, hopefully the modmic will work and I don't actually have to wear 2 headsets. Sorry, but I don't know what audio interface information means.

What I meant was, if you have to drive the headphones separately (if they can't plug into the same "spot" as the mic will, but I'm guessing that's not a problem if you have both the headset and the F1 hooked up), what kind of other audio outputs does your 360 have?
