Hey everyone. I had my heart set on the Superlux headphones but the HD 518s are on sale new on ebay for $60 or so. I'm wondering if they are better than the Superlux for gaming and music listening.

Thanks,
Kent

I'm going to guess at $60, the HD518 are worth it.
Also the HD518 will hold a higher resale value.

The Superlux is a great bargain in an entry level headphone.  See:

However the HD 518, using the same drivers as the upline HD 558 & 598, is a couple tiers above that.  See:

Neither is really a top choice for gaming, but I would rate the Senn as better at this as well.

How come they aren't that great for gaming? What type of sub $60 headphones would be good for gaming? Since these are open ear would they be okay for hearing different positions?

Update:
Based on your input along with a friend's I decided to purchase the HD 518s :)

Your price point and "good for gaming" don't mix well together.

Hope you enjoy the HD 518, which you picked up at a very good price.

I have never heard that sub $60 is bad for gaming. I understand I could spend a lot more but you're saying there's no good headphones in that category?

To my ears it's very difficult to find a decent headphone at that price--for gaming or music, absent a closeout sale (which you got).

Gaming cans require a large sound stage with accurate placement of sounds.  That is not a $60 product.
