this mod was made by accident but I'm glad it works
unless you dont have a mouse pad and super glue lying around the house, this mod isnt really free, but if you do then it is
pros: slightly more soundstage and slightly less forward vocals/guitars/mids. they are now circum-aural and dont hurt when using it for long time (because the drivers dont touch your ears anymore)
cons: it looks fatter and lessens the bass
first, a comparison between the stock (left) and moded (right) pads
see how much beefier they look
ok. now how to do it.
cut 2 thin strips of the mouse pad into half an inch
it has to be long enough so that when you wrap it around the drivers/cups. they have fit snugly so that they wont fall when there isnt any pressure holding them against the drivers/cups
now, cut out 2 circles. they should fit into the half an inch wraps and the circle in between should be enough to show the drivers.
glue them together using thin amounts of super glue
now try them on
now put the bowls on top of them
pull the bowls out a bit, about 5mm
now youre done
heres it (left pad) compared to the stock (right pad)
