Fusion Anyone?

Troy : Are you referring to the " Grand Wazoo" ? That is definitely
a great funk-jazz contribution from Zappa ! & I guess also
"Hot Rats" ...He left a lot of great music but I wish he had
explored jazz more.

My first foray into fusion happened today: Weather Report's Heavy Weather:

One Word Review: sUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUck!

I was so stone bored I could feel the life draining from me. This record sounds like every Manhattan Transfer record they assault you with at Christmas. I kept waiting for the damned songs to start. They never did. Just a pile of pointless noodling.

I'm sure there's good fusion. This just ain't it.

I should have gotten Bitches' Brew.

Fusion might not be for you at this stage, although I never did warm up to Heavy weather either. I would recommend downloading mp3s first.

One more vote for Weather Report/ Black Market. This has a powerful melancolic theme, along with the usual long jams.

I have to agree with cajun, about half of "Heavy Weather" is early elevator crap, but there are still some great moments on it.
There are better WR records.

cajunchrist - check out some of the suggestions that I listed above and tell me what you think... Those bands are more heavy and guitar oriented than WR.

Yeah cajun, check out Billy Cobham, Jeff Beck, and the Dixie Dregs. They got my toe tapping the most. Didn't really care for what I heard from the Mahavishnu Orchestra, though.
