so i go to radioshack to try out the koss ksc-75s because i had heard about the sale here on head-fi. they were 25 dollars, but i could get my money back if i didnt like them, so what the heck. i took the phones to the clerk to ask him what his return policy was and he said 30 days, yadda yadda. then he walked over the the headphones section and tried to point me toward a pair or $10 koss earbuds and i was like yeah right. when i paid for the koss he said "if you dont like those you might wanna try these sony's. there called earbuds. theyre $50 but they slip right in your ear, i use them with my ipod" i just found that to be funny

Oh, man. When retailers try to make sells to knowledgable consumers only hilarity can ensue.

Boy, those folks at Radioshack...they're really out front on some of those trends. I was in last week and they were telling me about this network of connected computers that people use to share information that seems pretty cool.

hey now ! were not all like that lol.. well very few of us retail sales people...

I find that when you try to recomend a good product to customers most of the time, they dont beleive you and contiune to look at crap.. I.E. everytime i recomend the px100's to people looking for portable cans, they always seem to say, mah, i think id rather take these rca or sonys that cost 5$ less.. some people..

Thats true, They have to "dumb" it down so the majority of the buyers could understand what kind of product they are purchasing.

But even more "specialist" shops are like that. I remember when I was 16 going with my folks to PC World here in the UK (guess what they sell?) and standing back while one of the staff there was trying to talk my parents into buying a £850 PC.

Meanwhile a mate of mine from college (from my Computer Studies course) who happened to work there comes over to say "hi" and point out that this staff member knows actually nothing about PC's. We thought it was quite funny some of the stuff this guy was coming out with.

Yea... I see this all the time when I go "shopping". LOL!

I almost always know what i'm looking for, why i'm looking for that etc. but it's funny to see what some of these salesman have to say. I usually just use em' to get my product from the back room or just to help me find it on the cluttered, unorganized shelves.

I cringe sometimes when i'm in Futureshop, BestBuy etc. and I hear the salesman talking about computer peripherals... Some of these guys know so little it's scary. I know some literally will pick the box up off the shelf, read it and then basically give the customer a summary. "These will provide deep bass with 20hz-20khz frequency response. I have a pair of these that I use with my IPOD and they sound great." LOL!

they're not dumbing anything down. they just don't know anything about what they're selling.
