Hello Guys,

For the Erix 47 V2.0 amp, Erix uses bypass caps.
I just want to know what are the function for the
bypass caps?

Thanks.

Take it or leave it...

You have your two big capacitors for power supply filtering and power resevoir. An amp with only those caps will happily loaf along playing nice music and behave in a way befitting a gentleman but,

when the music gets

louder,

and

faster

and the big caps are loading and unloading power as fast as they can till they can't give anymore... well, the amp just hits a wall.

Bypass caps, smaller value caps (usually film or ceramic), when placed right at the supply pins of a device, act like little batteries. They supply the opamps during that initial burst of music.

That's the way I look at it anyway...

erix!! Thanks for dropping by. Its always a pleasure seeing you post.
Anyway erix, thanks for explaining about the bypass.

And another thing, i went to your hobby site, seeing all those
amps you built just make me wanna build more.
I like those Hammond die-cast case that u are using.
According to your site, you're using the 1590B.
I was wondering what are the exact dimensions?
I'm not sure if i can get them here.
Anway, still waiting for the docs for your meathead.....

Thanx for the kind words.

You can find dimensions and drawings of all the boxes at Hammond's site.

Guess I'd better get started on those Meathead docs...

Yea, i found the Hammond 1590B here.

Another thing is erix, i cant seem to find the stomp
switch i the Farnell and RS Component Catalogue.
They do have push switches, but its all plastic made.

I was wondering where did u get your stomp switch??
I want those steel made stomp switches like yours...

See how your hobby site can make me turn like this....

Their primary function is to provide a low impedance at high frequencies to prevent the signal from feeding back into the amplifier via the power supply which can result in instability and oscillation. For example, supply lead inductance combined with load capacitance forming an LC resonant circuit.

You mean like the old guitar stomp-box effects switches? Like on the old Electro Harmonix, MXR, etc. gear back before they started using those girly-man hall effect switches?

Carlingswitch (now Carling Technologies) makes those and they're available from Newark and Future Electronics.

I think you want the 110/316P series switches.

You are correct - that is a Carling, a SPST to be exact. I get my stomp switches from Steve at
Small Bear Electronics as well as a bunch of other stompbox-building supplies like Hammond boxes, Graded Germanium transitors, general purpose passives, knobs, jacks, wire, etc...

ok,
