I'm just wondering if there are any good bands out there, old or new. I've heard of a Noir Désir with its Veuillez rendre l'âme à qui elle appartient, a few songs. Pretty good, I like the vocalist: he has that "grittyness" or something.

Any other ones?

Well, I don't know anything about the French pop rock scene, but their PROG ROCK scene is very well known. Bands like GONG, ANGE, MONALISA, MAGMA, PULSAR, SKRYVANIA, EDHELS, IRIS, ASIA MINOR, MINIMUM VITAL, HELDON, these are some few names among the many French Prog bands that come to mind at the moment.

while stereolab is from england, their lead singer is a french pop singer. also, many of their songs are in french.

try "mars audiac quintet" or "emperor tomato ketchup".
