So the other day I was attempting to get the Rockbock Manual and read it before downloading the Rockbox software. On the Rockbox site they offer 2 links to unZip software. One has known security risk issues if downloaded, and the other one doesn't work with Windows XP.

Are there any free, safe unZip software out there?

why not just download the pdf version? Or read it online.

FWIW, i downloaded the html zip file and unzipped it no problems on an xp machine

XP has a built in zip/unzip feature so no need to look for a freebie.

Why is this so difficult? Why not just 1 way to download the software rather than 15 or so files to download to make it work?

Rockbox is not the least bit user friendly!

Nag screen. Each time you open winrar it remind you that your copy is not register and you should register it (pay version) or stop evaluating the software but it does nothing beyond that. You can use it indefinitely. It's just a reminder that your using software that your aren't paying for.

You can use any unzip program to unzip the files, but the Rockbox Manual is also offered in HTML format and PDF, so you don't need any unzip program in order to read the manual.

There is an automated installer available:

No. As noted at the very top of the front page of the Rockbox site,
