Think i must buy myself a X-Fi card again so i can enjoy 24bit.( even if it was fake it was fun with a loudness button.) Is there no way to rip a sacd in 24bit?

Just downloaded the tracks and took a listen

Impressive (the classical tracks at least, haven't heard much of the other genres to do a baseline comparison).

Felt that there was greater amount of spatial information in the recording, and greater ease of detail retrieval.

Any idea how much improved recording/mastering techniques contributed, other than being packaged in a 24/96 format?

M-Audio Transit ASIO @ 24/96 to Foobar. It's basic, but Foobar hasn't thrown an error message at me, so I'm assuming it works, somehow.

Greater ease of detail retrieval as in I didn't have to concentrate as hard to follow a specific instrument throughout a piece.

Seeing how my DAC is rather basic, I posed the question on how big a factor improved recording or mastering techniques might have played a part in these recordings.

Maybe I should just resample the files to 16/44 and see if I can hear a difference

It's very hard to hear the difference between 24/96 and 16/44 in my opinion. Or should I say with my ears.

A fair amount of credit goes to the recording and mastering techniques. Chesky records is famous for their painstaking efforts in this regard and I believe that this site was started by the guys at Chesky.

The ultimate demonstration disc vol.s 1 and 2 by Chesky are well known here.

If the DAC don't accept 24-bit files, then you either have to convert the bit depth. Or simply download the 16-bit files...
Some of the fun will be gone though.

If I'm not mistaken, the Pico's DAC upsamples to 24/96, but only accepts 16 bit 44.1/48kHz inputs via USB.

Stupid question because I have no idea: If I d/l them, convert to WMA Lossless with Media Monkey, will they play full 24/96 on my Zune?
That is if Media Monkey preserves the 24/96 in the WMA Lossless file?
