The GP2X

Supports Ogg vorbis, uses replaceable AA batteries, SD card support, and plays just about every video format on a nice 3.5 inch LCD. Oh yeah, and it does games, too. And runs on Linux, so I can write or modify applications for it. By the way, it costs less than a new U3, and almost US$100 less than a new X5.

I'll let you know if I'm satisfied with the audio quality once I get one.

Yeah, some people have called it the "poor-man's PSP." I like it because it runs an open-source OS, it can play videos, Ogg vorbis files, and uses replaceable AAs.

Unfortunately after looking into it a bit more, it seems to have a few good reasons for being a flop. I'm still interested, but I'll probably wait to see what CeBit 2006 brings to decide if I'm really going to try one of these.

Better buy a lot of batteries with a 4-6 hour runtime
