I have been using a cool little plugin for the last few months and thought I should share:
https://github.com/tmwoz/binaural-vst

The compiled plugin is in /build/.

Virtually all music recorded in studios is not done properly (naturally), the result is that music appears to be coming from inside your head.

Once you get a taste of binaural you never want to go back, at the very least you want music to come from in front of you, and this plugin does it easily. I sometimes even enjoy having the music play behind me. It really changes the experience. I think very few people know about it and even fewer use it probably because of the perceived difficulty.

If you don't know how to use VST with foobar:

Have you checked out the DH config or Out of Your Head?

To me they sounded nothing like binaural. Binaural effect is created when there is a pretty significant differential from one ear to the other consistent with the physics of sound.

One way to achieve this is to record the sound properly to begin with, but to do it artificially you need to process existing sound in some significant ways:

Hrm...tried it and I have to say...yuck :/

Muddy, mediocre separation and placement...it just sounds kinda gross and not any more "out of my head" than stereo.

I'll be sticking with DH and OOYH for my purposes.
