You should give the Vioelectric amps a chance, they can be integrated a DAC too if you pay extra I think. Give them a listen for long periods though, they don't sound all that great with some headphone. Vioelectrics are pretty neutral and analytic, so should do brilliantly with the TH900. I didn't bring the vioelectric amp with me when I went to the headphone shop I went to so can't say too much about what they acutally sound like. also, I actually forget the model names so you should take a look around. Hope this helps

Thank god I went with the TH-900. They rival planar magnetic for detail retrieval. I wonder what the voodoo is with the bio cellulose driver, insane detail retrieval. It's the sound i'm after, being unsettled with samples flying around everywhere.

Egg shell leather means vinyl.
Old school.

i read an article on headphonia about the th-900 and someone said that the driver in the 900 is the same exact driver in the d7000 just more refined with a stronger magnet, which most definitely isn't paper. 
i'm guessing they are wrong.

Purely my opinion of course.

It's not a true LA (which includes a recable) but I do have a MD-7000 which Lawton himself damped and put his angle pads on, then bought a TH900. The two phones are so close that it's a toss up if the Fostex can is better but I like having both as they both get a lot of head time at two different vintage amp driven listening stations.

Add in my custom cupped D2000 with Lawton damping on the driver that anchors an office system through another vintage amp and the Fostex-built sound signature is well represented in my world.

My opinion is the delta in cost is a personal decision only you can make. I accomplished buying my TH900 by selling a D5000 and Edition 8 and covered the cost. Worth it for my situation.

The genre I listen to most is smooth/fusion jazz. They sound great with horns and of course drums/percussion.

Second place is Rush, then Pink Floyd..........and they excel at all of it.

Yes; I listen to more Jazz than anything else so this was a crucial part of choosing to buy the TH-900s.
