You can also simply run out of moneyEnd game happens when one of the following occurs.
Another hobby becomes more important. Thus while you still enjoy good audio reproduction, you're more interested in ploughing money into your new found adventure.
You finally come to the reality that spending a ton of money on another set of headphones or a DAC/AMP isn't actually going to get you any closer to "audio nirvana" than what you have already.
With that we have the end game of end game.

Honestly, the LCDX is probably the end game for many, paired with RME ADI 2. I think it is an end game not only because it excels in many areas in sound, it is also because of value for money. I'd love to try the LCD4z and what does the LCD4z seem to be is an upgrade to the LCDX with warmer tonality? So maybe the 4z is indeed the end game yet the value for money and the price gap between the two might turn off many listeners. The X I consider is an endgame, but I also own others and want to try others as well.
It was mine until I recently swapped it for a Hifiman HE1000 Stealth. Talking about value for money (at the current price) I feel I get *much* more with the new set. The minute I put it on I appreciated the loss of weight, the ability to use it whilst laying on a pillow (hard with the LCD-X), but more importantly the sound. First time I used the LCD-X I was impressed, totally new feelings. This just happened again where I hear instruments or sounds I never heard before on well known tracks, the separation is on another level and the expansion of the stage is marvelous. I'd strongly anyone looking at something in a similar bufged range to have a listen.
Mind you, the biggest critic is that they might sound bright. The bass is fantastic, and It is not harsh in the highs for me at all but two reasons: I'm 58 years old so maybe I just don't hear some of the high frequencies as I used to, I have a small correction applied with Roon.

Try to eq it based on Oratory1990 Harman profile. It’ll sound cleaner. My stock LCDX had underwater soundIt was mine until I recently swapped it for a Hifiman HE1000 Stealth. I was applying EQ in the LCD-X too, but with or without the HE-1000 stealth blows it out of the park for me.
