I'm a very happy owner of the PS500's (having previously owned the 325is and 80i). I'm very curious about the Grado sound, so...

Would you buy the GS1000 or the RS-1i as an occasional alternative to the PS500's and why?

p.s. I listen to a good amount of Acoustic, Americana and Classic Rock and am loving my new Asgard right now.

RS1i sounds very, very typical of Grado except a bit better - again, typical of Grado. Each model is just a bit better, generally, and another 100 dollars. It's still a very good headphone and not too steep price-wise. I can't speak on the quality of the PS500's, unfortunately, but I've had a lot of demo time with the RS1i, due to a stretched definition of the term "borrow" in regards to a particular headphone-loving friend, and I quite enjoyed them.

A friend who has both the PS500 and the GS1000i says to his ears the PS500's actually has better bass. Guess I'll have to pick up some RS-1i's and see what they are all about.
