Ok, here is the question.

The light comes on OK when I use the AC adapter, but only on the bottom of the display (looks like 6 little LEDs). I remeber when I just got it, there was light coming from the top of the display also (but I might be mistaken). How is yours?

Mine got 6 Leds at the bottom either and I've seen it like this since I got it.

Six orange LEDs on the bottom, that's correct. Does it even matter? You can still see the info in the dark.

BTW, the dots on my D-25S are green-yellowish, not that it matters...

I got today my second D-25S (I have it at work). Made September 1991. The only difference vs. the first one is that the stepper mothor is MUCH quieter, although I don't think there is anything wrong with the first one, which was made April 1992. I had another Sony PCDP in the early 1990s. The stepper motor was also loud, but it worked perfectly for the few years I had it (I gave it to my brother who sold it).

If you cup your hands over the LCD as shade (to darken the surrounding more) might help you view the screen more clearly.
