Barefoot is the only way to hit the beach.
I used to wear socks and shoes everywhere, but became a sandal devotee about 15 years ago. Since, it's sandals or barefoot every chance I get.
Even at work, too. I get stuck in the office late regularly. During normal hours, we have to wear dress shoes. But after about 6PM, no one cares, so the shoes and socks come off. Quite a few others do the same.
I think it's healthy to go barefoot. For one, your feet get to dry out and breathe instead of being trapped in a shoe. Second, you don't really get to grip the ground the way we're meant to with shoes on. Your toes are designed to dig in and work while you walk or run. Soles keep them from doing that. Going shoeless (I think) keeps the joints working as intended.
