I recently switched to foobar using the wasapi plugin.
I'm feeding my dacmagic through optical output and I was wondering in order to get bitperfect output, what I have to choose as a output format in foobar?
I have of course mostly 16bit lossless files but also some in 24bit .
I was searching through threads here in this forum but I couldn't get the answer.
Do I have to change the setting to the matching file bit depth everytime or can I set it to 24bit and be done with it?

Even if you have 16bits audio files, you can safely set bit depth to 24bits since 24bits content will be played back at proper settings, just like 16bits audio files will be played back at 16bits, with the 8 remaining bits being filled with zeros, therefore not altering sound in any way.
