I don't really have a price range; but use case would be either directly from my Nexus 5; one of my laptops (Macbook) or if I'm at my desk for whatever reason maybe plugged into my Schiit Valhalla (Worried a bit about being overly sensitive..).

I have fairly eclectic musical tastes (http://www.last.fm/user/womcsm), but listen to most everything but Rap or Country.

I was leaning toward a pair of Shure SE535s due to positive previous experience with the brand (e2c+slc4), but am open to other suggestions.  I'd rather have more low end that I can tone down if needed than the other way around, and these would be worn while moving around as much as stationary so microphonics and comfort matter..

Any advice welcome.. :)

You might want to sell your Valhalla and buy a Valhalla 2 with a low/high gain switch, but the Vallhalla 2 may have a more forward sound with the new capacitors.

If you are comfortable with using the Valhalla with in-ears and not concerned with possibly destroying the speakers, then that is fine, too. I can suggest the Ortofon E-Q7 for now:

Check theheadphonelist.com for other in-ear reviews, too.

Oooh... I hadn't realized Valhalla 2 had come out; that kind of solves my quandary.  Thanks, now to see how best to upgrade.. :)

(Followup; I picked up Shures SE846-CL, 'end game' portable for me as i'm still leery on customs.  Will use with my E17 while mobile via for now (USB OTG cable on the way); they sound great with my O2/ODAC at work.  Surprised how much hiss they pick up straight out of my Macbooks, even the air.)
