Will using the flat pads get rid of the pain after wearing them for around 1-2 hours? Are the pads worth $30? I listen to rock and rap if it matters.

Flat pads are reputed to be great...but not necessarily for comfort. Search this forum for the "Senn 414" modification. Buy those pads for less than $7 (w/shipping) and your comfort should improve with a possible improvement in sound as well.

Flats are great for rock and rap, since the forwardness and bass will be increased. As for comfort, it's better than bowls IMO. They hurt at first, but in a few hours your ears will become accustomed to them. They'are fairly comfortable after that. Your ears won't be touching the drivers either. I personally prefer bowls overall sonically, but for rock the flats are slightly better.

I use the senn pads, reversed. The sound is in between the flats and bowls. I found the flats too bassy with a reduced soundstage.
