Hi All,

I currently have a Cowon X5 that I really enjoy. I would like to get a flash drive player for working out. But, I don't want to have to convert all my music which is in FLAC. I have seen the U3, but it only has 2GB of storage. The new D2 offers more capacity, especially with the SD card. That said, I am concerned about the size, the screen and how to carry it when working out. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Rockbox + iPod nano = Flash player with FLAC support

Does anyone else that has tried rockbox on the iPod find it to be much more clumsy than the regular iPod interface though? I tried it and love the features, but its just not very intuitive although I imagine they will fine tune the functionality after all the workings are polished I imagine.

KRMATHIS - have you used it on a nano? I tried it on my photo a few weeks ago, maybe I had a wrong font or something, but with the way I saw it I couldnt really recommend it for ease of use.

Yes, I tried it on my iPod nano about one year ago.
I liked the features, but as you I found the user interface to be really hard to use.

If it only had been easier to install. I had to manually partition and format the iPod from HFS+ (Mac formatted) to FAT32 (Windows formatted), compile the tools needed to upload Rockbox, etc. Took me at least two hours!

Same here. I had issues just getting to where I could scroll through songs. I have a feeling the older versions for players like the H120 are much more polished. I know the iPod versions havent been around long but should get better over time. How does the nano sound (thread jack), as I am looking to trade my iPod photo for a Nano for my wife.

Just work out harder, and you can just listen to lossy encoded music!

If all your music is in FLAC, look into Sveta (www.dbpoweramp.com) and use it to transcode your files from FLAC to MP3 on your device. It will also transcode from FLAC to ALAC and put it on your nano, without having to rockbox it. I paid for this program, and have found it to work great. I filled my G5.5 iPod from my flac directory.

I personally prefer to have more choice when working out, and have MP3 files on my nano for working out. I try not to do critical listening while doing aerobics or yoga.

I just got the program myself as I already had DB poweramp and I guess its included with my liscense. It is real sweet in the fact that it will convert anything and move it at the same time. Very nice find!
