I recommend -5 as well, best bang for your buck flac encoding

. It encodes fast, and is nearly identical in filesize to -8. -8 takes forever.

It does? -8 takes less than a minute per 4-6 minute track for me.

Oh and yeah, I love that guide too

-5 takes me about 10 seconds per 4-6 min track

Yeah mine takes about 10-20 seconds per track come to think of it..

I did various WAV file tests with FLAC -0, -4, and -8. Most of the time there was very little difference in file size. Maybe 500kb between -0 and -8, and very little difference between -4 & -8.



My bad, I was testing a White, Pink Noise & Brown Noise WAV files. I did some on actual music WAV's, theres a big difference between -0 & -4, but not as much between -4 & -8.
