What is the best lossless ripper for FLAC that runs on a MAC?  What about the PC?

On a PC I use Foobar. You can mount the CD, check the on-line databases for track names, rip to FLAC or MP3, then tag the tracks all within the same app.

For Windows PC you will find many people use EAC (Exact Audio Coy), which is free and does very accurate rips and format conversions. I have used it for years.

Is there one for Mac? I only had an iPhone 4 16GB before so I had to settle for AAC 256k vbr multipass before.

I use XLD, although Max is does it's job just fine. Both are free.

I recommend JRiver Media Center 20, it can convert FLAC

XLD. For me - by far. Very universal, also to change one format into another, and newest version can even create FLAC's (or ALAC's) out of DSD files and ISO's.

Another vote for XLD here. It does a lot more than just ripping. Incredibly useful music utility.
