I really, really like my K701 and have no plans to change headphones. However, I've noticed crackling and occasional loss of sound in the left channel. The sound breaks up whenever I move that that portion of cable that goes into the phone.

The sound break-up is aggravating to the extreme. How do I most easily fix this issue? Your DIY experience is greatly appreciated.

Are you willing to open the headphones up and take a look inside them? Sounds like you have a bad solder joint, or some other form of a bad connection. It will require you to resolder the connection.

Or you could send it or get it repaired by one of the many cable builders on these boards, the AKG genius Fitz or one of the commercial builders such as Apuresound or moon audio.
