There is a plug in download called Tweak Network Settings over at http://update.mozilla.org on the Mozilla FireFox extensions page that deals with some of the very same improvements you mentioned. Given your incredible knowledge of computers, I will trust you and implement your code immediately regardless...

These custom tweaks do work. I am experiencing much faster responsiveness, seamless performance, and higher download speeds. No problems with these lines of code so far but I will report back in due time if necessary.

I did all of these tweaks with the exception of the IPv6 one a few months back. They provide a nice gain in performance and I have seen no sign of instability due to them.

Welly,

I think you might be thinking of https://update.mozilla.org/extension...id=327&vid=989

(it's from the same thread).

bg4533,

I use Ubuntu Linux and it has a hosts file which by default enables IPv6. Many Ubuntu users have found that IPv6 address resolution causes a slowdown on the order of 2x and up; so for them disabling IPv6 (within the host file & FF settings) has translated into at least twice as fast reponse. Some users were complaining of some sites taking minutes to fully render. Obviously it depends on which site one is visiting.

Good tweaks (most of which I already used; but thanks for putting 'em together for people), but why disable IPv6? It's a whole lot better than v4, even if you only look at addressable space.

I suppose most Windows users won't ever notice much, though. But with Linux, especially Gentoo, there's quite a nice speed boost gained by downloading patches from IPv6 servers.

I use CableNut as well. Good solid broadband tweaks and room for custom tweaks as well.

I think this Tweak Network Settings plugin is for Mozilla FireFox 1.0 but you should check out the author's home page.

http://www.bitstorm.org/extensions/ says for FF 0.9 & 1.0. I use FF 0.93 (Linux)

I believe I saw a slow down when I installed the extension and so I went back to the customised settings in FF.
