WOW!

I was browsing through youtube Friday night and found videos of ppl playing music from Final Fantasy. Intrigued, as I play piano, I click on someone and start listening! My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe how interesting, dynamic and pure this music is. Phenominal work! I kept clicking and searching one song after another after another after another. I swing over to iTunes Store and found that they have several of the "Final Fantasy Piano Collection" albums, but not all. I when through several 30 sec snippits and loved them all.

I have been unable to find anything here in the US that has these albums except for ebay. I have been looking through the listings religiously trying to find a good buy. I even went as far as amazon and tower.com, etc. They're sellable as imports only - the prices range from $25-40 between both sites. Where I usually shop, best buy, wal-mart, target, circuit city, didn't carry these titles. So, I guess I'm ebaying everything

Have any of you heard this music before? It's phenominal. I strongly recommend.

Yes, they're import only. Great stuff. I've got Piano Collections VII, which is probably the best of all. Be careful about eBay--unless things have cracked down in the last few years, they are flooded with pirate versions nearly indistinguisable from the originals. If you want a taste of some of the earlier Final Fantasy music, in its original format, check out the original SNES music files and players at http://www.snesmusic.org/

Heard them, played them and I agree that the piano collections are very nice and contemplative music with great melodies arranged in a very capable fashion. My favourite is the piano collection from FFX, the ending theme in particular. VII also has great pieces and so does VI. Albeit light-hearted and simple (not simplistic) people usually have a hard time believing that the music is from a computer game. All the better if you've played the games! Also great as background music without the shallowness of most newage piano stuff. Sublime in its own way.

There are 13 f-fantasy game/film soundtracks available on allofmp3.com.

What one would you recommend to download?, i would listen to a preview but my pc hasn't been able to play audio since last february, btw i've never played the game nor seen the films.

Hmm. I love the music, but I just don't think the piano cuts it. I mean, it's fabulous on tracks like Aerith's Theme as Aerith's Theme is suitably sombre and fits a solo piano like a glove. But it is seriously at odds with songs like Rufus's Welcoming Ceremony which brass would suit far better, Gold Saucer where it doesn't quite catch the 'casino' feel - instead just seeming happy - and, finally, it doesn't suit Cosmo Canyon which is more tribal.

I'd much rather see this kind of thing done on instruments that suit the music being played. Ah well, I can dream, can't I?

I think some of the FFVII songs have been recorded with a orchestra, the theme song for instance. Or maybe it was a bootleg recording from a live concert that I've heard.

check www.gamemusic.com and see if they are available. Also try ebay, but chances are they are bootlegged (ever anime, SM records are two bootleg labels).

I have a few of those piano cd's and they're good, but I prefer the re-arranged stuff to FF music...some of it is fantastic (ie. FFIV Celtic Moon comes to mind).

edit: I just checked game music and they have quite a few of those piano collections available...$30 a pop though.

i'm not much into the piano stuff, but i like alot of japanese video game soundtrack. i think the artist are among the most imaginative and overlooked artist. quite a big task actaully, to write 3-4 hours worth of music for a single game with many different themes and genres. thats 3 cd lengths worth.

i highly recommend ff7, its one of my fav soundtrack. it is the first ff game to hit the playstation. although not accessible mood for everyhone. as you might know a game has to have many different theme songs and so i dont like every single one. but i recommend atleast the 6minutes long main theme song, its a classic. edit: i'm looking at allofmp3 and it seem they dont seem have the original soundtracks, otherwize i could reccomend more, but oh well.

ff6 is my second favorite, that the snes day, but at allofmp3 isnt the original versions so i cant comment. i think ff8 is a lackluster, skip that one. ff9 in term of soundquality is a big jump over the previous 8 imo, and pretty decent composition too. again i'm only familiar with the original, and allofmp3 dont have it.

just about all these are written by the legendary nobuo uematsu. but my favorite and most musically inspiring person has to be his protege, yasunori mitsuda.
