Finally realized K1000 is what I really want and need

As an aside, I had been using RS-1s for eight years. Not to knock those cans, but IMO the K-1000s are far superior [in my system] in terms of tonality and detail. The veil has been lifted. I am so completely satisfied, in fact, that I bought a second pair as a spare--I wouldn't want to go even one day without them. Upgrade? Not in this lifetime.

I used to think K1000 'needs' tubes somewhere in the chain. At one point, I had a great modded tube CDP-->300B PP tube amp-->DIY cables-->modded K1000. Certainly, this was a fantastic setup with NONE of the "metallic treble" and "shy bass" people keep mentioning.

I'm currently using Empirical Audo modded Transit (or Lynx 2B card)--> Sonic Impact with a huge PS-->modded K1000. No tubes in sight, yet still ZERO metallic treble and BASS that reaches deep and very Hard. Sound is just as fabulous and enjoyable, in a different way, from the tube setup.

K1000 owners need to somehow figure out a way to get the K1000 drivers closer to their ears beyond what the stock headband allows, which will allow the real potential of K1000 to unleash. If you hear bright/thin treble with weak bass, all it means is that you haven't been able to optimize the K1000 setup yet IMO.

Jon L,
What mods do you have on K1000?

Is that Paris, Pennsylvania?

I'm jealous - I always wanted an RKV and K1000 combo. So, will you be tube rolling anytime soon?

I'm curious to know how the HE60 compares to the K1000.

God bless my wife who lets me do stuff like that. What's much worse than the foam padding in the picture (between speakers) are my "first reflection point" foam pads on both sides that have tall stack of cardboard boxes covering the foam.

I found out by accident that my room sounds much better with lightly reflective material (like boxes) covering the front of foams. Once again, God bless my wife, who I'm sure lets me get away with this stuff b/c she plays piano and violin and loves music

No that's Paris, France - but my mother's from Pennsylvannia, so don't feel sorry for me. As for tube rolling, I have not done it, but any advice is welcome.

I have sold all my headphone gear - but i am still toying with the idea that if i need to buy a new pair of cans - i am considering the AKG K1000.

this way i can use my sophia el34 amp to drive it . im not sure if it will match pretty well with my other associated equipment though.

anyone used the akg k100 with a sophia baby or el34 amp?

My sources are decent enough but i hope it synergizes well together.

BTW the price increase is the one holding me back from buying them.

The best advice I can give you is: don't do it.

I'm sure you can do a search for 'tubrolling' and 'RKV'. (So, where's Doug these days?)
