Hey,

I hear a lot of talk about the differences in sound quality between members of the iPod family.

I have a 3rd gen iPod but everyone says the 4th gen one has better sound. In what way, and how much better?

Some say the iPod mini has inferior sound. Is it different to the 4th gen iPod?

The shuffle is that much worse again?

Can anyone give me a definitive answer to the vexing question of sound quality throughout the iPod range?

1. they are all bass shy. I cant hear a big difference between 3G and 4G. I sold my 3G before buying the 4G. without a detailed head to head comparision, its hard to tell.
2. I believe ipod mini uses the same chip as the 4G. having said that, ipod mini is just a mini version of the 4G with an inferior battery.
3. the shuffle uses a totally different chip that is used in many cheap mp3 players. it should have a very different sonic characteristic. many head-fiers who have experienced the shuffle said that the shuffle has a very good sound compared to other DAPs. I personally have never heard shuffles. so I cant judge.
