Hello, I am new here, and my name is Nathan.

I am experiencing a problem with my Fiio X3 MP3 player not being fully recognized by my computer. It will charge, by USB connectivity, but it will not be recognized so that I can get into the storage area. It just does not show up, in 'My Computer' as it used to. I have made certain that I have chosen the right mode (storage, instead of DAC), and I have also done a reset on it - a couple of times. I hope this thing isn't on it's way out, as I am crazy about it, and certainly cannot afford another, at this time.

Just once (recently) did it jump up as a storage device, and I was just about to add a song. But, after about a minute, I heard that USB sound, which let me know that connectivity had dropped. I have tried different cables, but all has been to no avail.

Does anyone have ANY idea as to what might be going on?

when plugged in, is the DAC interface showing on the X3?

Thanks, Voxie, for responding - especially, so quickly.

In all honesty, I have never used my little 'friend' in DAC mode, so I wouldn't even know what the DAC interface would look like. Having said that, I would have ro answer your question in the negative. That's because what I'm seeing is the norm, as far as what I have been used to seeing is concerned. If connected from an 'Off' state, there will just be a battery charging indicator. If connected while it is 'On', nothing is changed from my song information screen.

Maybe its a driver issue. Have you changed the X3'S firmware? I know i am stating the "bloody obvious" but have you tried a system reboot?

. Are you getting a "Driver not recognized" warning?

I do remember upgrading the X3's Firmware, a little ways back (v3.3), but I had been under full, and satisfying operation with my unit until this past week.

Regarding a System rebooting, I have indeed done that - a couple of times. Also, I get no 'Driver not recognized' notices, anymore. The first time this all started happening I DID receive that notification, and (if memory serves me correct) it was right after that when I experienced that less-than-a-minute USB connection. Since then, I get absolutely zilch.

Hi Nathan, when you said that you you tried to reset the X3 on your first post... did you use the pin method or the button reset?

So sorry for having taken this long in responding, but (until just now) i seemed to have a huge problem signing in.  Don't rightly know what the issue was, because I had used the very same login info which got me through this time.  But, I now have "Stay Logged In' checked, so I should be good to go.

In answer to your question, all I knew to try to do was to (1) use the pin method, and (2) try the 'Reset Factory Defaults' menu choice.  By your mentioning the 'Button' reset I am assuming that there must be another hard reset method that I didn't know about (misplaced my user guide).  Could you please share, with me, the procedure that you have spoken of?

Advanced thanks.
,
Nathan

Hi, hold down the menu and power button together for about ten seconds then power up the unit. Just wondering if you have a sd card installed is it showing up on "My computer" ? Their is a dedicated Fiio X3 tread on this site that has been in existence since the unit launched. Would be a good idea to post your problem their. Also contact Fiio directly they are great in offering help.

Thank you.

I will certainly check out the Fiio thread that you mentioned.  The SD card, in my unit, does not show up in 'My Computer'.  The only thing which does show is the battery charging indicator.  This thing really has me exasperated, but I really appreciate all that you tried to do to help me.

No, I haven't as yet. I put this same matter at the Fiio X3 thread and, just yesterday, emailed Fiio (support@fiio.net). I truly hope that SOMEONE can help me get this situation squared away - and SOON.

Wanted to share, with you, a very recent response that I received from Fiio support. Here it is:

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for your mail.

Sorry to hear about the problem. It's suggested to firstly replace the USB cable with another one(which should support data transfer) so to check if it's the problem from the cable.
As for the playback problem, it's suggested to update the firmware to the FW 3.34beta(>download) and see if it can get any better.

If the problem still remains, please feel free to contact us again.

Best regards,
FiiO customer service

I am on my IPad, right now, but will download the Firmware update as soon as I get on my laptop. I have already tried about 4 or 5 different cables, and none of them made any difference. I am not too optimistic about the Firmware updating, owing to my assumption that the unit would have to (first) be recognizable. But, we'll see. I'll post back with the outcome.

Probably it wont make a difference. However do try this and let me know if it works for you. They asked me to send back unit for repair/replacement since mine is x3ii. The problem we are facing is exactly the same.

Guess what? It DID make a difference.

I had momentarily forgotten that I didn't have to worry about my X3 not bring recognized, in order to format the storage card (and get the newer Fitmware on it), because of the external USB card reader that I have. I went through the process of upgrading the Firmware and, when I connected to the laptop, I found that 'My Computer' did indeed see my unit. I even went through a couple more episodes of the same efforts, just to make certain that it wasn't just a fluke. So, it seems that I am back in the saddle again .
