Here's my fix, it has worked for a few days and is basically cleaning the wheel contacts. I post it here since from the beginning, head-fi users have reported wheel issues, some minor fixes have been recommended but for some of us none would work.
Tools needed: prying tool or flat screwdriver, high grit sandpaper or similar material to clean metal contacts.

- Before messing with your X1, try the last stable firmware (2.0) as it includes software fixes for the wheel sensitivity. (check release thread).
- Disassemble the wheel.
- Get your X1, I'll demonstrate on mine. Lightly press the center button and rotate it counter-clockwise to remove the top of the button. There is a video on youtube that shows this, and the whole disassembly of the X1, but not the wheel mechanism (link).
- Put aside the button cover, with the button exposed remove the wheel prying between the wheel and the black disc:
- With the wheel removed, separate the wheel mechanism.
- Pry out the metal piece, being careful to not bend it.
- That metal piece holds in place the black plastic ring with the metal contacts, after removing it you can simply lift the plastic ring
- Clean the contacts on the bottom of the ring, try to restore some shine to the metal
- Also clean the contacts under the ring assembly
- Make sure there is no dust or debris and reassemble in opposite order.
