FiiO releases the new firmware FW1.7.2 for X1 2nd gen

  Hi, gonzoznog
Thank you for you kind feedback.
1. We have reproduced the issue of volume adjustment you said. We will try to fix it in later firmware.
2. The message "01.flac not found!" appears after sleep then wake up or lock up then wake up? Is it happen when pause as well? Are you using the earphone to skip the track as well? If yes, could you tell us the model is your earphone? We failed to reproduce that issue. Thank you in advance.

FiiO, thanks for being so attentive.

1. Cool, can't wait. It is a minor issue but still somewhat of an annoyance in determined occasions.
2. It has appeared 2 times, one after waking up from sleep using headphones and another time waking up in vehicle mode. It happened both times as soon as the player woke up. I don't use inline controls.

Thanks!

Hi, gonzoznog
Thank you for the information you provide. Is it the same file that have the issue? If the problem happen again, please inform us. We will report this to our engineers and try to reproduce it.

Hi again, FiiO.
No, it's not always the same file, sometimes its a flac, sometimes an mp3.
Yesterday it happened again (using LO) and I noticed something else: after the message ("file.mp3/flac not found!") pops out, sometimes it starts playing other file but the output goes mute until I unplug and plug the AUX cable again.

Edit 1: Later it happened using HO, but no message. Just skipped a couple songs quite fast on the now playing screen and when the track finishes playing the next one is mute. One must replug the headphones to get sound from output again. (I usually play songs from Category->All Songs in Shuffle)

Edit 2: Another thing I found out is that the player was unable to play some tracks based on the parent folder name. I had some folders with "{" and "}" in the name and the tracks inside were unable to play (I got the "not found!" message). I deleted those characters and they play just fine.

Thanks!

I've only had my X1 II for less than a day but I'm loving it. Startup with Bluetooth enabled is a bit slow but I'm hoping that another firmware update will fix that. A couple of issues that I've noticed with this latest firmware:

1. When playback is in shuffle mode, performing a track skip backwards jumps to a random track instead of returning to the previously playing track. It makes sense for a track skip forward to jump to a random track but a backwards skip should always return to the previously played track (that's how things worked on the original X1).
2. The Track/Album/Artist information on the Now Playing screen doesn't display accented characters correctly even though the same accented character is displayed correctly in the Category and Browse Files views. For example, "Ásgeir" displays correctly but on the Now Playing screen, the "Á" is replaced with a hànzì character.

Hi, @Croptop, I noticed the shuffle thing too but I really think that this true shuffle is better than before. In my previous X1 the shuffle mode was really a playlist that ordered the tracks randomly at first, but then it would continue - I think - that's why you could go back to the previously played track. All the player did after was to skip one song ahead, giving the sensation of shuffle. This is how I think to worked:

It arranged the playlist this way:

track1 -> track2 -> track3 -> track4

If you play track1 'til the end it goes automatically to track2. If you go back to track1, when it ends it skips track2 and plays track3 instead. If you skip back again it plays track2 again and when it ends the player skips track3  and plays track4.

In the X1II it's true shuffle, back and forth.

I agree with your analysis of how things work but I guess I'm asking for what amounts to a hybrid solution. If I track skip forward, the X1ii should jump to some random track. It currently does this. But I pretty much only ever track skip backwards because I want to jump back to the track I just listened to (or mistakenly skipped past whilst skipping forward). Perhaps I'm the only one who wants it to work this way, though.

  @Croptop,
Do you see any advantages in the firmware of the X1 II in comparison to the original X1?

An interesting question. To be honest, I'm not an X1 (or X1 II) power user so at first blush, the behaviour and features between the two devices seem largely the same. I was perfectly content with my X1 and I only upgraded because of the added Bluetooth support. Having said that, here are the differences that I've noticed between the two firmwares:

X1 II does not support ReplayGain (yet; supposedly it's coming); X1 does.
X1 II allows you to switch Line Out mode between Fixed Level and Volume Adjustable; X1 does not
X1 II also has a Fixed Level setting (0db, -3db, and -6db) that the X1 lacks (this is different from the "Fixed volume setting" that both devices have.

But in the grand scheme of things, the X1 and the X1 II both behave pretty much the same from a user interface point of view (as far as I can tell).

One other irritation on the X1 II: Every time you change the "Update Media Library" setting between "Manual" and "Auto", it re-indexes the music library. On the old player, changing the setting didn't cause the library to be re-scanned.

Hi, Croptop
1. For the shuffle issue, we have already give the feedback to our engineers. We will consider changing it in later firmware.
2. For the display issue, could you please send us one of the file so we can have a test? Thank you in advance.

Hey @FiiO when you play an album (by category) in shuffle the very last song keeps repeating over and over again instead of going through the entire album again like it used to.

Sorry to post so much bugs, but I do it in hope that new firmwares get better and better than they already are. :D

I've never bought a DAP beyond a used Ipod 160gb player. An amazon reviewer convinced me to try out the X1-II but I really want what he said is called ReplayGain where it won't require me to constantly adjust volume depending on song etc so it's an even level. I just want this to replace my ipod that stays 24/7 in my car but have been converting more so over to FLAC than mp3 and don't want to convert to ALAC and use ipod. When will this be a feature or should I look at something else in this price range?

Hi, cyris69
The replay gain will be added in the later firmware for X1II. There is in-vehicle mode in X1II and you can get more information from: http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41636&extra=page%3D1
And it is recommended to have a try in your local store first.
