So no update is coming?
Hi,

I would not depend on it.

Fiio promised an upgrade to Android 12.
But Google released Android 15.
So even if there is an update, it will still put us 3 years back...

At this point, if there is an update, it should be Android 13 or 14

Me, I already run the A12 Beta for the Fiio R9.
So far, I encountered no problems.
So I think Fiio should release it to calm down all the people complaining about the R7/R9 not receiving updates despite the promises made on release of the device....

Hi,

As I wrote, I am running Android 12 on the Fiio R9 that replaced the R7 I used to own.
And as I wrote I do not see any problems using it on a daily basis.
Even Fiio Cast and Fiio Remote have never been that stable !
So I must say that I do not understand why Fiio does not release it publicly...
It is stable and has all features the A10 has (from what I see at least).

Just to say it, I made myself more or less independent from the Fiio Apps that are not the best there is.

I use the R7/R9 as a media server.
Put my music on a USB Stick.
Installed Emby Server for Android.
Had that index my library (takes time... about 12 hours for 24K tracks but a lot of Classical which is problematic).

Then access the media from any thrid party app (I love Symfonium).

On the R7/R9 I installed UAPP and Neutron.
And I enabled them as DLNA Renderers.
So I play files that are stored on the USB Stick on the R7/R9 remotely accessed with my smartphone to play them back on the R7/R9.

Works flawlessly !
Only thing to know : do not put your library on a drive that is set to go to sleep automatically.
If so, you'll have to unplug it and plug it back again to get gain instant access to you library again.
But Fiio can not be blamed here...
Still : a setting that would be "Do not allow OTG to go to sleep" would be nice...

HiBy Music app also works quite fine. I installed it to R7 (server mode) as well as to iPhone and Android tablet (controller mode). It allows me remote browsing (by folders) and play control. Otherwise I like Bubble UPnP and UAPP (the later (HiBy can do it, too) allows upscaling which is great). I wish there would be iOS versions, too (can't find such a good iOS music app...). Neutron has good features but the user interface is just horrible (I only get stressed everytime I try...😀).

Beside that I still have to decide if I continue with Roon or not. The yearly fee is way too high (and as I don't have public IP, I can't use huge portion of it's features anyway).
