James,Hello! I'm finding support @FiiO slow in answering. If you can maybe help me with a simple question?
After enough time filling the battery when brand new out of the box I clicked on "Language". So I clicked on "English" and it went to Japanese. Now I have no idea how to navigate or do anything. I even clicked "factory reset", still Japanese. Can you tell me how to change to English? Thank You

Dear friend,

You could find the answer from our FAQ page: https://www.fiio.com/newsinfo/131226.html

THANK You very much for helping. Everything is in Japanese but what you have shown in the English instructions seems similar to the Japanese line for line so I will at least know where to click on for the Yes or no question. Thank You

1. You can try a hard reset to see if it resets the language options. Hold the power and play buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds while unit is on, check options after it reboots.

2. You can try to reflash the firmware to version 1.0.7 which will put everything back to the factory setup. Take out the memory card, copy the firmware to the root of the card, put the card back in the player. Turn it on and then go to the File Management option. Tap on the memory card and scroll down, the firmware will be in english.

You can download the latest firmware 1.0.7 from Fiio http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=43883&page=1&extra=#pid126055 this is a llink to the firmware page. Once you download the firmware copy the zip file to your microsd card either directly to the player or by using a microsd card reader. If necessary insert the card into your M9 or start the M9. Tap on the yellow File Management icon, once it opens you will see two options, the top one is for internal storage, the bottom one will be for your microsd card. Tap on the bottom microsd card storage, then scroll down and you should see the zip file for the firmware. Tap on the firmware and confirm you want to update the firmware. Once it updates it should restart your M9 and it will be back to the original setup when you first got the DAP.

Just sold my M9!

Having spent 7+ days with my Shanling Q1 I decided to sell my M9. After comparing them for over a week I find overall the Q1 sounds just as good as the M9. I would even go so far as to say it has a more natural sound than the M9. The Q1 is a huge improvement over the M0 in every way. I am getting more than double the battery life of the M9. I give a slight nod to the M9 in soundstage depth and maybe tiny bit wider but otherwise the Q1 holds its own against the M9 in virtually all other aspects of sound quality. The Q1 boots in less than 10 seconds and scans my entire 9400 track library in about 10 minutes vs 40 to 50 minutes for the Fiio Music App on the M9.

Comparing the usability and UI yes the M9 is better but the Fiio Music App is a dogs breakfast at least with version baked into the firmware. The track database count is constantly out of wack between what the Fiio Music App shows and the music database, not to mention not sorting in proper alphabetical order. It is only with Pulsar that I give a major nod to the M9 for UI and usability. But ironically the lower quality of the UI and usability on the Q1 is a plus kind of for me. When I turn on the Q1 I simply press play and turn off the screen and listen to the music, I don't feel compelled to mess around with it. With the Android based M9 I found myself constantly turning on the screen and playing around with it like my smartphone draining the battery quickly. I feel more comfortable also traveling with the Q1, if I were to lose it or drop it and break it the financial hit would be much lower than the M9 and it is definitely more portable.

So I have now owned 3 Linux based DAP's and 2 android based DAP's. I definitely prefer the non-android base DAP's, they simply fit my needs better. I find myself asking do the differences between the M9 and the Q1 justify paying $250 more for the M9? For me that answer in the end is NO!. I find myself using ever feature I paid for the on the Q1 vs less than half the features on the M9. Sure the larger higher resolution screen on the M9 is nicer but ultimately unnecessary for my needs.

Not to say that the M9 is not a great DAP, it is, I had it for over a year, the second longest I have owned a DAP. I used the heck out of it and it gave me many hours of listening joy and yes some hours of frustration as well. Not sure what this means going forward for me DAP wise. To this point I find I prefer the sound signature of the Shanling DAP's vs the Fiio DAP's. But for usability and UI I give the nod to Fiio at least for now and Shanling still does not have a Canadian distributor. Still waiting to see what the next round of Fiio DAP's look like.

It's slow and there's not much you can do about that. I don't mind. If you move up to the M11 it should give you more speed.

YES Finally no restrictions to install apps with latest update. Many thanks Fiio !!!

Now i can finally EQ my favorite streaming apps with Dolby digital plus app. Unfortunately the newer Dolby Atmos. Apk is not working.

In ADB Terminal type "adb devices" to check if it's connected. You have to see a serial.

Now we have to remove original build in equalizer (has nothing to do with fiio app EQ)

Then "ADB shell" and type "pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.musicfx" if succeeded you will see message. Restart MI9.

Download AsusDolby.apk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-4-selfie/themes/dolby-asus-zenfone-root-t3762599/amp/

Open the app and close start Spotify and choose Equalizer.

Enjoy!

@FiiO next time we can unlock bootloader and root access?
hi
did you noticed difference? i installed it but cannot see difference
