Hi guys!
Did anybody try Fiio M15 with HD800s headphones? Does it have enough power (through balanced cable) to drive them to a good perfomance?
Yes, they have plenty of power for the HD800

Hey Mate,

I normally use mine as a USB DAC with the HD800S on my PC through the 4.4mm connection and at 90 (out of 120) + Over-head headphones option on is more than enough to listen comfortably :)

So, I got to hear the Astell&Kern SP2000 recently which costs three times as much as the FiiO M15, but am I crazy to think that the M15 sounds better?

Honestly, it’s just not even close. I’m really surprised by how much I prefer the M15.

Can you share what in particular sounds better to you?

They both have incredible detail, but the M15 sounds fuller and more powerful. Listening with Campfire Andromedas and FLAC files, the SP2000 sounds smooth but almost too smooth, as if the edges have all been filed down. The M15 has some texture and bite to the notes, and the highs not only sound just as detailed as the SP2000, they’re also more defined. Bass is more impactful on the bottom end, and that’s with a wide variety of eartip/cable swapping.

The only thing the SP2000 beats the M15 on is soundstage, which is a bit wider than the Fiio. But that’s a minor difference overall and in the end, I much prefer the sound of the M15.

Fiio did a wonderful job with the M15...

The sp2000 is clearly better than M15 in every aspect, of course this statement may be diferent depending on people taste and what they have heard all is life, some people don't know how natural sound sounds like...M15 is very good but not that good, it only takes 5 seconds of music to notice the diference

Did you do it?
I did and I was surprised, because I liked the m15 more. But I think the tuning of the M15 simply jives with me really well.
The M15 defiantly has a slightly different tuning that is not totally audiophile but also not as warm as a tube amp. I’m fairly certain that is why the impression people have are varied.

The M15 is a great Dap, but if people have the chance to ear it next to sp2000 and says that the M15 is better, I must desagree totally, the sp2000 has the most natural and sweet and heart warming sound that I ever heard, it has nothing to do with audiophile or on audiophile is the sensation of sounding right, the voice distance the instrument placement everything sounds right, if people don't have that feeling when ear the sp2000 is better sell it, because is a clear lack of hearing sensativity, SP2000CU plus Sony ierz1r is simply sublime

I haven’t tried the sp2000 just the Hugo 2, but I would say the Hugo 2 was defiantly more transparent than the M15.
I just preferred the M15, I got more into the music and had a more enjoyable time.

Edit: Also I am curious about the Fidelizer M15 mod, I wonder if it retains the signature of the M15 but makes it better. Maybe closer to the sp2000?
